The mission of The San Diego LGBT Community Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and HIV communities by providing activities, programs, and services that:

Create community,
Empower community members,
Provide essential resources,
Advocate for civil and human rights, and
Embrace, promote and support our cultural diversity.

The Center houses more than 50 programs, projects and services that reach out to the LGBT, HIV/AIDS and allied communities. We provide direct program services to the many different facets of the LGBT community, including youth, seniors, families, LGBT Latino community members and their families, and those struggling with HIV. In 2008 The Center served more than 25,000 San Diego community members, and through its events, activities and advocacy, touched the lives of thousands more.

WGXC/Prometheus Radio Station Barnraising

For our 12th radio barnraising, Prometheus is joining forces with WGXC 90.7 FM! WGXC, Hands-on Radio is a community-powered media project of the transmission arts organization free103point9. What makes this barnraising like no other barnraising we’ve held before? Our partnership with WGXC will be our very first full power radio barnraising - at over 3000 watts, WGXC will reach nearly 80,000 people in two New York counties.

Making Media Public Conference

Traditional ways of making media are in crisis and steadfast models are threatened with extinction: media giants teeter on the edge of bankruptcy, local television stations are being closed, thousands of media workers have been laid off, and community radio and television are poorly supported. At the same time, new media are increasingly embraced by publics that, linked through social networks, produce and distribute an increasing range of their own content.
